Spring 2006 BLACK BEAR
Bearpaws 15th Black Bear season in Peace River has proven to be one of our best in 20 years of operation.
Our 35 hunters harvested 62 Bears for a 177% success rate. Good numbers, however 9 hunters missed opportunities and lost a second tag. We provided a 200% opportunity for our hunters which we are very proud of.
Quality and size was exceptional with 11 bears at the 7' mark. Our traditional average has been 1-2 bears per week in the 7 foot range. This year our average was 2.8 bears at the 7' mark, per week! (Average sighting was 8 bears per hunter per week). Our color numbers were the lowest in 20 years at 18% and our missed opportunity numbers were the highest in nine years. We can not emphasize enough the need to practice with the weapon of choice as our wounded policy will continue to be enforced.
The lodge and the outstanding food provided is always a big hit with the hunters after a big day hunting up here in the Peace River country.
We are currently 50% booked for the upcoming 2007 black bear spring season.
