Bear Paws’ name has long been synonymous with Trophy Whitetail. Now we are equally well known for our Trophy Mule Deer. Thanks to the “limited entry hunting” which was brought in in the year 2000 in Zones 523 and 527, the Peace Country is now among the top destinations for Mule Deer scoring over 180” B & C. Zones 523 and 527 are prime Mule Deer habitats. Deep canyons of the Peace and tributary drainages hold some phenomenal bucks. Hunting is Spot & Stalk as well as out of stands. Deer in the area tend to be extremely massive and long tined. Most mature bucks are 26” to 30” with a few over 30”.
Our season opens September 17th. We find our Mule Deer bucks in bachelor groups and are extremely huntable. This period from September 17th to October 6th has produced excellent hunts for our clients. The late November rut hunt is a second option generally done in combination with Whitetail.
Due to the liberal bow season in the Peace Country, we are able to offer the best values for the traveling bow hunter in search of trophy mule deer. Few places can compare with the opportunities available at deer in excess of 180 P & Y.
This hunt is tailored for the Spot and Stalk mule deer hunter. 90% of the hunting is on the ground and 10% is stand hunting. The individual that is capable of hunting deer in this manner has a chance to take bucks virtually only huntable this time of year while they are together in bachelor groups on high quality food source. We perform this hunt during the last week of August as well as the first two weeks of September.
We have harvested 16 bucks over 180” in the last 5 years. This makes the Peace Country one of the top destinations for the serious bow hunter.
