The 2017 Spring bear hunt was once again very successful. There were a number of colored bears taken and a lot of potential for harvest in the future. Bear numbers have increased in the last 4 – 5 years due to the milder winters and early thaw.
Once again, the success rate was 180% on the 2 bear tags and 100% opportunity. Those who didn’t fill their second tag were either waiting for The Big One or a specific color. We are taking a limited number of hunters to ensure the quality of the bears stay above the 6-foot average, maintaining a 30% color phase; and targeting the mature bears is the goal of Bear Paw to give you the best opportunity possible for a trophy bear.
Most of our bears are harvested in the big timber in the Boreal Forest. We have built and continue to build new stands with some accommodating 2 people.
Fall bear hunting is a perfect combination of spot & stalk and bait hunting. Opportunity was 100% and success was 200%. Top end bears move out of the covered areas into grain fields and river valleys for the spot & stalk opportunity. Multiple 7 foot and color phase bears were taken during the fall hunt.
Our hunting zones provide excellent quality and high bear density as most bears are having twins and some triplets.
